Bodytherapy

Bodytherapy is a form of bodywork rooted in the original teachings of Ida Rolf and Moshe Feldenkrais, as taught by William Leigh.

“Bodytherapy recognizes that from birth to death, life is a flow of energy. This energy takes shape through our attitudes, emotions, and bodies. Bodytherapy releases the natural form of the body from the aberrations caused by physical, chemical, psychological, and spiritual traumas.”
— William S. Leigh, From the Bodytherapy Practitioner’s Manual

What is Bodytherapy?

Throughout life, various traumas—physical, emotional, chemical, and spiritual—leave imprints in the body’s myofascial network. These imbalances disrupt the body's natural alignment with gravity, causing inefficient movement, mobility issues, and chronic pain.

Because our physical structure both reflects and influences our mental and emotional state, restoring balance through Bodytherapy can also help release emotional tension, clearing the way for greater well-being and vitality.

How It Works

Bodytherapy is traditionally done as a ten-session series, working systematically from the outer layers of the body inward to fully reorganize your structure. However, single sessions are also available. The goal is to realign the body so it moves efficiently and effortlessly, in harmony with gravity—just as nature intended.

Benefits of Bodytherapy

Because Bodytherapy addresses the body as a whole, its effects are long-lasting. Clients report experiencing:

  • Improved Posture & Alignment – Restructuring the body from the inside out promotes a more balanced and natural stance, reducing strain and effort.

  • Greater Flexibility & Mobility – Releasing tension in the fascia enhances range of motion and movement fluidity.

  • Pain Relief & Injury Recovery – Addresses the root cause of chronic pain, tension, and discomfort by correcting structural imbalances.

  • Enhanced Athletic Performance – Improves efficiency, coordination, and resilience, making movement more effortless and powerful.

  • Deepened Body Awareness – Encourages a greater connection between mind and body, leading to healthier movement patterns.

  • Stress Reduction & Emotional Well-being – Fascia holds not just physical tension but also emotional stress; releasing restrictions fosters relaxation and ease.

What to Expect in a Session

Sessions typically last 60 to 90 minutes. Because Bodytherapy involves hands-on work directly on the skin, clients should wear shorts, a sports bra, a two-piece bathing suit, or underwear. Active participation is part of the process, with guided movements enhancing the effectiveness of the work.

By restoring balance and freedom to your body, Bodytherapy helps you move, feel, and live with greater ease.

Neurological Muscular Skeletal Integration (NMSI)

Neurological Muscular Skeletal Integration is a specialized form of bodywork designed to be gentle yet effective. It accommodates clients experiencing pain as well as those seeking regular maintenance massage to support overall health and mobility.

NMSI is particularly beneficial for addressing joint discomfort, including shoulder, neck, knee, and back pain. It is especially effective in reorganizing sacroiliac imbalances that contribute to lower back and lumbar issues.

Many of my clients schedule regular sessions—whether they’re in pain or not—to maintain structural health and catch potential issues before they develop into more significant problems.

What to Expect

NMSI is a full-body, clothed massage session that typically lasts one hour. Unlike traditional spa massages, you’ll remain fully dressed while I tailor each session to your specific myofascial imbalances. These imbalances are identified through a combination of assessment techniques, including questions, observations, and movement tests.

The goal of NMSI is to release contracted and adhered myofascial tissue that may be disrupting your skeletal alignment. This is achieved through a combination of massage, trigger point work, and gentle movements to restore balance and ease within the body.

Benefits of NMSI

Clients frequently report feeling:
✔️ Lighter and more buoyant
✔️ Increased ease of movement
✔️ Improved posture and alignment
✔️ Reduced pain and tension
✔️ Greater range of motion

Whether you're seeking relief from chronic discomfort or proactive care to maintain structural integrity, NMSI provides a thoughtful, individualized approach to support your well-being.

Postural & Movement Coaching

Movement is a fundamental part of life. As children, we move effortlessly and with joy. But as we age, our bodies become less supple, more resistant. What was once a source of pleasure can turn into a tiresome effort, and eventually, even an agonizing burden.

When we move with grace, we embody beauty—not just in appearance but in essence. Beauty is not merely skin deep; it is also found in the elegance of motion. Graceful movement is both a pleasure to witness and a joy to experience.

The ability to move well is a defining factor between a fulfilling life and one overshadowed by pain and limitation. Yet, as we mature and shift our focus toward external responsibilities—career, family, and success—we lose touch with our bodies. Over time, stress, tension, and poor movement patterns accumulate, replacing the fluidity of youth with stiffness and discomfort. Before we realize it, we've aged—not just in years, but in our very way of being.

The restorative movement practices you’ll learn in these sessions will not only help relieve pain but also restore joy, beauty, and grace to your daily life.

These movements draw from a variety of disciplines, including Feldenkrais, Hanna Somatics, Bodytherapy, Physiosynthesis, and East Asian martial arts—traditions I learned from one of my teachers who lives in the East San Francisco Bay Area. They were instrumental in my own recovery from a snowboarding injury, enabling me to regain abilities I once thought were lost.

Private sessions are available in 30-minute or 60-minute formats.
